Dollar Tree, Inc. is an American-based company offering discount variety stores selling overstock and discontinued items for $1.00 or less. Dollar Tree is a Fortune 500 company with corporate headquarters in Chesapeake, Virginia. The company operates 4.010 stores in 48 states of the United States. Typical departments found in each Dollar Tree store include health and beauty, food and drinks, party supplies, seasonal décor items, housewares including candles and décor, glassware, dinnerware, flatware and serving utensils, toys, gifts including gift wrap and bags, craft supplies, teaching supplies, stationary, cleaning supplies and books as well as frozen food and produce in selected stores. Dollar Tree also has an online store that was redesigned in 2009, offering some of their items in bulk to small business, organizations and individuals looking for larger quantities. Their website also provides the added benefit of customer reviews and ratings of their various products. The company was founded in 1953 when K.R. Perry opened a variety store in Norfolk, Virginia called Ben Franklin. It was later names K&K 5&10 and Only $1.00. In 1993 it was named Dollar Tree Stores, which now more commonly is referred to as Dollar Tree, Inc. Dollar Tree became a publicly traded company in 1995 and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2008, Dollar Tree made it to the Fortune 500 list and in 2010, opened 86 stores in Canada known as Canadian Dollar Giant Stores. These stores are based in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
