About The Hershey Company

The Hershey Company is a chocolate company. It was founded by Milton Hershey in 1894. The headquarters are in Hershey, Pennsylvania, it employees 13,700 people and has an annual revenue of over $5.6 billion. The company?s products are sold in over 60 countries. Milton Hershey owns many more companies including Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company, Hersheypark, Hershey Trust Company and the Hershey Bears hockey team and more. In the beginning, Milton Hershey founded a candy shop in Philadelphia which only lasted six years before failing. He then started the Lancaster Caramel Company in Pennsylvania which had success. He sold the company in 1900 for $1 million which would be equivalent to over $26 million today. He began to use that money to start manufacturing chocolate again. He constructed a plant in Derry Church, Pennsylvania, which was later, renamed Hershey, Pennsylvania and the chocolate he produced became successful. In 1907, the Hershey?s Kiss was introduced which was at the time hand wrapped with the foil. Later, in 1921, a machine was manufactured to wrap the candy and put the paper ribbon around it. Today, 80,000 Hershey?s Kisses are produced every day. Over the next years, many more types of chocolate were introduced including Mr. Goodbar, the Krackel bar and Hershey?s Syrup. In 1963, Hershey acquired Reese?s company from a former employee for more than $23 million. The Hershey plant in Pennsylvania is the largest chocolate factory in the world covering 2,000,000 square feet.
