Northrop Grumman Corporation is a US-based multinational aerospace and defense technology company. Northrop Grumman operates from its corporate headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia, is the largest builder of naval vessels in the world and the fourth largest defense contractor in the world as of 2010. Northrop Grumman was formed in 1994 when Grumman merged with Northrop. Northrop Grumman has approximately 75,000 employees worldwide and reported $34 billion in revenue in 2010. Northrop Grumman is one of the largest corporations in the United States and one of the top ten Military Friendly Employers in the United States. Northrop Grumman is organized into four main business segments; Aerospace Systems, Electronic Systems, Information Systems, and Technical Services. Northrop Grumman combined two of their subsidiaries (Newport News and Ship Systems) to create a new business unit called the Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. This subsidiary manufactures all U.S. aircraft carriers and supercarriers. Notable aerospace systems produced by Northrop Grumman include the E-8C Joint STARS surveillance aircraft, the B-2 Spirit strategic bomber, and the RQ-4 Global Hawk; all used by the US Air Force. The Electronic Systems business sector designs military sensors and related products used for air defense, including the C4l radar systems. Smaller products under Electronic Systems include night vision goggles and secure communications equipment. Northrop Grumman is the largest supplier of IT services to the federal government and provides training and communications services for the military through their Technical Services business segment. Northrop Grumman?s subsidiary Romotec, is the primary manufacturer of remote control devices used for explosive ordinance disposal and hazardous material handling. Northrop Grumman, in order to provide functions in the War on Drugs, sends planes that spray herbicides on cocaine fields in Colombia and opium poppy fields in Afghanistan.
