About Spectra Energy Corp.

Spectra Energy Corporation is an oil and gas pipeline company. Due to a spin-off from Duke Energy, Spectra was formed in 2006 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. The company owns Texas Eastern Pipeline which brings gas from the Gulf to Texas and to New York. Duke Energy bought Westcoast Energy in 2002 which was a Canadian corporation and owned Ontario based Union Gas. In 2004 Spectra Energy Corporation was added to Standard and Poor?s S&P 500 index and Spectra began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Duke Energy completed the transfer of its gas business including Union Gas and Westcoast and formed Spectra Energy. One share of Spectra Energy for every two shares of Duke Energy was received by Duke Energy shareholders. It is among the largest pipeline systems in the U.S. Spectra?s strives to meet and exceed compliance requirements of laws and regulations. For two years in a row Spectra Energy was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. Last year the company ranked first in the 2011?s ?Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index?. Spectra Energy is possibly the largest source of greenhouse gases in British Columbia. The company was reported to emit over 19,000 tons of nitrogen oxides and over 9,000 tons of volatile organic compounds. Spectra?s employees and retirees are involved in ?Helping Hands in Action? program. More than 10,000 hours were contributed by over 2,000 employees, retirees and their family and friends to 200 non-profit organizations doing cleaning of camps, parks, beaches, schools, and meal preparation for the needy.
